About Me

Born and raised on a beautiful farm in Dumfries and Galloway, I picked up the violin at just 4 years old, not knowing it would lead me on an incredible journey across the globe. My musical education took me from Chetham's School of Music to completing my degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. During my early years I was honoured to be part of the National Children's Orchestra of Scotland and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland which gave wonderful opportunities to play in China and at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.  Following ten years of city life I decided to return to my love for the countryside.  Now, back in Dumfries and Galloway, I enjoy a fulfilling career that blends teaching with playing professionally at many different types of events, all while cherishing the joys of farm life.

"Helen is a friendly and encouraging teacher who will always laugh at my jokes.

I really enjoy learning the violin with her, and I imagine that she likes the lessons  too! I think the fact that she introduced ceilidh music nearly immediately is also a good thing. I have improved greatly since she started teaching me (seeing that I practically didn't know what a violin was before that) and now I am always wanting to do very fast ceilidh tunes in double quick time! Classical, jazzy, blues, slow and lively music are also on the list of pieces I've played."
